Terms, in brief

Address

A public identifier that crypto assets can be sent to. It can be shared freely, unlike a private key.

Bitcoin

The first crypto asset, launched in 2009. A decentralized network with a supply capped at 21 million units.

Blockchain

A distributed ledger where transactions are grouped into blocks linked in chronological order.

Private key

The secret that controls access to crypto assets. Whoever holds it controls the funds.

Custody

Crypto assets held by a third party, such as an exchange platform.

Recovery phrase

A list of 12–24 words that a wallet can be rebuilt from. Never share it with anyone.

Stablecoin

A crypto asset designed to track the value of a reference asset, usually the US dollar.

Spread

The difference between a platform's buy price and sell price.

How much an asset's price fluctuates over a period of time.
